Why are you the only company in the world to offer a money back Guarantee if no whales are seen?
We listened to our customers! Often it is their only chance in a lifetime to see whales, and they don’t want excuses. So, we are committed to working harder than anyone else in the industry. Our success rate is a staggering 97-99% most seasons (100% has been done twice). This is done through hard work day in and day out, and on the rare case we do not see any whales, a full refund is given, no questions asked! Others from our same port have often had seasons of 50% success while we are 99% in that same season! Often the difference between choosing us versus the competition is seeing many whales with us, or nothing with others!
How far in advance should we book the tour?
Although this is hard to judge, reservations should be made at least 7 days in advance or earlier. In the off-season (June and September), you should be ok to reserve 1-3 days before. However, the season could be busier than expected and it is difficult to predict how long in advance you should book. Reservations are definitely recommended as soon as you know when you wish to come.
Do you contact us if the trips are cancelled due to weather?
Yes! When taking a reservation, we ask for your email and a phone number where you can be reached in case we need to cancel. We need to follow Transport Canada's strict wind regulations and in some instances, we may have no choice but to cancel as late as at time of departure without notice. We do our best to contact in advance when possible!
What type of whales are we likely to encounter?
We are blessed to live in an area that encounters many species. Whales are migratory and travel to feed and breed. During our 5-month season we encounter 7-13 species. It depends on the year and food pattern, but we have encountered Pilot Whales, Finback whales, Minke whales, Humpback whales, Beluga whales, Blue whales, Right whales, Sei whales, Killer whales, Sperm whales, Atlantic white-sided dolphins, common dolphins and Harbor porpoise. Each have their time and reason to be in our area, some years shorter or longer stays depending on the food source.
Are there bathrooms on the Zodiacs?
No, the Zodiacs are open-air boats, and therefore do not have washrooms on board. We recommend that you use the public washrooms (located next to our office) before your departure.
Can I bring a camera on a Zodiac?
Yes! Please bring your camera and/or video camera to capture the experience. We also recommend that you bring a plastic bag or other waterproof case to keep your camera safe and dry during travel to the whales. The boat will come to a complete stop for photo opportunities.
Are Zodiac excursions safe?
Yes, Zodiacs move fast but are very stable. There will be no quick turns on this excursion. These adventures are designed for Quality sightseeing and not a thrill park ride, and are suitable for all ages. Seniors are given priority seating towards the stern, where there is no bouncing at all.
Do passengers often feel seasick?
No, our Zodiacs are custom-built for whale watching with passengers in mind. Captain and crew will also do their best to minimize the impact of the sea. However, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend you purchase non-drowsy Gravol from a pharmacy prior to your adventure with us, and take 30 minutes prior to departure. Although it is rare to need on our zodiacs, if you are very prone to car sickness is the only time it would be recommended.
Do tours run in all types of weather?
Tours operate rain or shine! Safety is our priority and, in extreme weather conditions or high winds, adventures may be cancelled at the discretion of our qualified crew. We will do our best to contact beforehand, but often it has to be cancelled at the last minute with conditions suddenly changing.
How early should I come down to the office if I've already booked online?
Please arrive at our office at least 30 minutes prior to departure. It will take some time to prepare for departure.
How long are the tours?
Our tours generally run 2-3 hours in total. This can change depending on the distance of the whales on that day and how fast they are traveling. Hence, our vessels have long range capabilities. We do recommend you come prepared for a potentially longer trip, by bringing water and a light snack.
How should I dress? What should I bring?
Dressing in layers is recommended. In warmer summer days, just a windbreaker works fine. For colder days we provide thermal Flotation Jackets and pants for everyone.
Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and your camera. No special footwear is needed, just dress according to the temperatures that day.
